Castle Qalat Ar Rabad, Ajloun was built by the nephew of Salah Ad Din Al Ayubbi (Saladin), one of the greatest Muslim military commanders, in 1184 AD. The castle is famous as a bastion for Salah Ad Din to protect trade routes between Jordan and Syria, deter the Franks from invading and, became the defensive chain against the Crusaders, who, unsuccessfully spend decades trying to capture the castle and the nearby village. From its height of 1,300 metres, the castle has a commanding view of the surrounding valley.

Cave of the Seven Sleepers. The verse Al Kahf as mentioned in the Al Quran. It is the story of seven young men during Roman times (pre-Byzantine) escaping persecution and seeking refuged in a cave. They slept in the cave and when they woke up they had no idea that they had slept for 300 years. The 'sleepers' thought they had only slept for a few hours. After their story was widely known, the 'sleepers' died.

Centuries later, during the time of Prophet Muhammad SAW, the Jews of Medina challenged him to tell the story of the 'sleepers' knowing that none of the Arabs knew about it. By the grace of Almighty Allah, the Angel Gabriel revealed the story to Prophet Muhammad through the verse, Al Kahf.

Orthodox Greek Church of Saint George, Madaba. The '2nd church' raised after Jerusalem. Under the Byzantine, Madaba became the centre of a fluorishing school of 'mosaics' workers. The church housed the remains of a famous floor mosaic (from the Byzantine period) where a geographic map of Palestine is depicted. In the mosaic the location of the cities of Jerusalem, Bethlehem, Jerico and, the river Jordan, Lake Tiberias, the Dead Sea and Prophet Luth's (Lot) cave sanctuary can be recognised.

Azzat - BSB school concert 'Home for Christmas' - December 2007

View all 9 photos...
The winter concert 'Home for Christmas' was held at the British Club, Bahrain. It was organised and produced entirely by the teachers and students of the British School of Bahrain (BSB) and it highlighted the plight of the homeless.

We sat in the front row, thinking it was a good place to be, but alas, it was too near the speakers and our view was blocked as we were not able to get a good, broad angle photo shots of Azzat.
